The government of India banned 43 Chinese mobile apps due to defense and security reasons.

On November 24th, 2020, The government of India has blocked 43 Chinese mobile apps including several Chinese apps owned by Chinese companies, four of which belong to the Alibaba group. The fresh apps are banned in the name of defense and security reasons.

The statement given by the government says, “Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India today issued an order under section 69A of the Information Technology Act blocking access to 43 mobile apps,”

The India-China face-off on 29th June resulted in the ban of 59 Chinese mobile apps and after two months, the addition of 118 apps was included in the ban. The total of apps that were banned was 177 which were mostly owned by Chinese companies.

The first move for the ban of mobile apps followed after the death of 20 Indian soldiers in the India-China face-off at Ladakh’s Galwan Valley.

In a “digital strike”, the central government had banned a total of 220 apps including the famous TikTok and the mobile game, PUBG.
