The date December 4th was chosen to recognize the Indian Navy's achievements after the Indian Navy sank 4 Pakistani vessels. The incident took place during an operation in the year 1971. And right after that year, people celebrate Navy Day on the 4th of December.

While International Navy Day is celebrated on October 27, India celebrated its Navy Day on December 4th to embark on the history and the achievements of the Indian Navy.
