The lead actress of this iconic series received death threats for her role

The young actress faced extreme aggression for unimaginable reasons.

A series was started in the early 2000s that continues to have a large fan base to this day. Homealso known as MD HouseIt was a global success. Lead actor Hugh Laurie brilliantly played the hyper-intelligent but extremely unpleasant Dr. Gregory House.

For Olivia Wilde, who played Remy “Thirteen” Hadley, the series was her big break. Thirteen played a regular character in the fourth season and remained so until the end of Home in 2012. In an interview with Variety, Wilde, who now also directs and produces, says it was the Thirteen story that caused a big stir. This even required additional security on set.

Unexpected revelation

At first glance, this is an unexpected revelation. After all, Thirteen was not an unsympathetic character. As a young doctor, she is part of House’s diagnostic team. What made his development special was the fact that he suffered from Huntington’s disease, an incurable neurological disorder that is associated with a shorter life expectancy. Thirteen was also one of the first fictional characters to be openly bisexual. In the series he has relationships with both men and women, including his colleague Eric Foreman (Omar Epps).

At the relevant time, these were innovative elements in a series and further exploration cannot be avoided. Thirteen lived through the decline of their mother, who also suffered from this disease. His story discusses extensively how he deals with his condition, and Thirteen encounters patients who are at a more advanced stage. The same goes for her sexual preference: Thirteen refuses to be pigeonholed and finally tells her colleagues. During the course of the story, there are also some funny moments where Thirteen talks openly about the assumptions people make.

Innovative

However, the relationship between Thirteen and Foreman upset some strange characters. It was a mixed relationship, as Foreman is a black man. As a result, Wilde faced death threats. The actress said the following about it: “There were really crazy threats and therefore the studio needed to be further protected”. In the early 2000s it was “Grey’s Anatomy” has just begun, causing a mixed relationship on television to arouse extreme aggressiveness among some. “When I watch ‘Euphoria’ today, it’s hard to imagine that my character was shocking and taboo-breaking. Nowadays, this is no longer a problem.” Wilde said. Times have clearly changed, giving the series an unexpected context. Can Home Watch it on Netflix, Prime Video and SkyShowtime.
