12 promising films that will be released in 2025: one for each month

The 2025 movie year is once again full of superhero violence, but luckily there’s plenty of activity in other genres as well. For each month of the next year we choose the movie we are most looking forward to.

As in previous years, 2025 is once again packed with franchise films and superhero vehicles. It’s not a punishment, but it’s not very exciting either. At Manners we want to enrich ourselves with new worlds, original plots and groundbreaking ideas. Fortunately, movies like that are also in the pipeline (we’re mainly thinking about November). Movies from all categories appear on this list of 12 promising films, one from each month of 2025.

Most promising films in 2025

In 2025 we will see Brad Pitt in an F1 movie (including a cameo by Max himself), the first naked gun in a post-Leslie Nielsen and Boon-Jong Ho era letting Robert Pattinson die too often. And two of these three movies didn’t even make our list. Enough to make you curious. See our preview of the 2025 film year here, broken down into one film per month.

January – In the gray

Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill and Eiza González form a ‘tough collective’ hell-bent on recovering billions that were stolen from them. An action thriller written and directed by Guy Ritchie (among others Snatch (2000) in the knights (2019)), then you know enough.

February – Captain America: Brave New World

To do this, he must work with a new president of the United States, played by Harrison Ford.

It is the fifth collaboration between director Barry Levinson and Robert De Niro Sleepers, Shake the Dog, What Just Happened in The wizard of lies.

April – A Minecraft Movie

A Minecraft movie has all the ingredients of a great failure, but it makes us very curious. Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (played by Jason Momoa), Henry, Natalie and Dawn accidentally enter the Overworld through a portal. Here they team up with Master Builder Steve (Jack Black) to defeat dangerous enemies like Piglins and Zombies and find their way back home.

The colorful collection of cartoon characters are doomed against each other in a movie where the villains are forced heroes.

June – Dancer

Ana de Armas has big shoes to fill as an assassin on a revenge mission. Little is known about the plot, although we predict that he will kill a lot of helmeted men while they dance. He can only lean a little on John Wick, who is expected to appear only incidentally in the story.

Ballerina also features Lance Riddick’s final role as Charon (the concierge of the Continental Hotel). He died in March 2023.

Juli – Jurassic World Rebirth

Augustus – The Naked Weapon

Liam Neeson sounds much the same, but it will be a monumental task for the 71-year-old Irishman to be a worthy replacement for the late Leslie Nielsen. He has to do it with jokes from The Lonely Island comedian Akiva Schaffer, a kind of American Henry van Loon. In any case, it has a colorful supporting cast, including Pamela Anderson and Busta Rhymes.

September – The Bride

The well-known story of 1818, but from a female perspective. Not only because Maggie Gyllenhaal is behind the camera, but also because the search for a love interest for Frankenstein (Christian Bale) is central to this film. The choice falls on a young woman murdered in Chicago in the 1930s. She is treated by Dr. Eufronio and comes to life. Maggie’s brother, Jake Gyllenhaal, also participates. Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood creates the soundtrack. With a budget of 100 million dollars, one of the biggest blockbusters of 2025.

October – Miguel

In recent years we have seen biopics of Freddy Mercury and Elton John. Now it’s Michael Jackson’s turn. He is played by his own nephew, 18-year-old Jaafar Jackson. He has no acting experience, but that only makes him more special as far as we’re concerned. Miguel It follows the life of the tragic pop hero from his childhood in the 1960s until a few weeks before his death in 2009. It’s curious to what extent all the peaks and especially the valleys are covered in the film.

November – The running man
