British singer and TV personality Alesha Dixon (44) is one of this week’s presenters at the semi-finals and final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool. In the Netherlands we haven’t heard her name for years, but she may still sound familiar to you.
Dixon broke through in 2001 as a member of the girl group Mis-Teeq, according to local media, the British answer to the successful American formation Destiny’s Child. The group, which also included Sabrina Washington and Su-Elise Nash, had modest success in the Netherlands with roll over (31 in the Top 40). The trio released two successful albums before their record company went bankrupt in 2005 and they decided to part ways.
Alesha signed a record deal and tried on her own, but with so little success that the company dropped her. Her popularity took off again when she competed in the immensely popular Strictly come dancethe british version of dancing with the stars. She won the show in 2007 and still landed a record deal elsewhere.
