Those who surprise and overlook the 2023 Golden Globe nominees
Announcement of the list of nominees Golden Globe 2023 Monday (December 12) contained a number of surprises and disappointments as a number of actors or films received no nominations.
Some of the pleasant surprises from the 2023 Golden Globe nominations were that Selena Gomez was finally recognized for her acting work by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) as the host of the Golden Globe Awards.
But there are also surprises that make you think, such as Top Gun: Maverick’s appearance in the Best Drama Film category. On the other hand, Tom Cruise, as the actor and brains of Top Gun, was not nominated.
Tom Cruise isn’t the only one left out in the nominations for the 2023 Golden Globe Awards. There’s no place for a female director in this year’s Best Director nomination, though the series of films by female directors has received a lot of praise.

Even though two other major players who also co-produced the series with Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short, were nominated for the 2022 Golden Globe Awards.
However, Gomez’s role in season 2 of this series is to be commended. In this crime comedy series, he plays a deeper and darker role.
The 2023 Golden Globe Awards is also a moment for the Only Murders in the Building trio of podcasters to come together and possibly solve cases and bring home the Golden Globe trophy.

Top Gun: Maverick’s nomination for Best Picture – Drama Golden Globe 2023 is a surprise that really makes you think.
This film is loved by many and uses a variety of action scenes that are breathtaking, thanks to Tom Cruise, of course. But for the nomination “Best Film – Drama” this is clearly something new.
What’s more, the rival of this Hollywood blockbuster is Avatar: James Cameron’s The Way of the Water, Steven Spielberg’s Fabelmans, or the biography of Elvis, or the film Tar, which received many accolades.
At the same time, the film under the brand name blockbuster others, such as “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, which are considered to have higher cultural values, or “Everything Everywhere, All At Once” with a strong Asian tinge, are not considered for this category at all.

Even though Avatar: The Way of Water was predicted to fill all of the award nomination slots, the film’s appearance in the 2023 Golden Globe nominations is still a surprise.
The problem is that this film nomination appeared even when James Cameron’s film had not yet been released on the big screens and was available only to journalists. In fact, the premiere took place only on December 12, 2022, at the same time as the announcement of the nominations.
On the one hand, the 2023 Golden Globe Awards are hosted by the foreign journalists’ association in Hollywood. But given that there are films that came out earlier than Avatar 2 and have the same capabilities, the decision to include Avatar 2 is clearly in question.
The question is not the quality of this film, but whether the HFPA, as host of the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, has clear and strictly enforced standards for films that can be nominated. Or are you just afraid of falling behind the Avatar hype?
