Review of the Netflix series ‘Manifesto’ season 4
Fortunately, the latest season of the mysterious series makes a soft landing.
Manifest it was initially compared to due to the plot about a missing plane Lost. So I was left to see if this series finale would disappoint as well. This almost happened when the series ended prematurely after three seasons. fortunately I have Manifest from Netflix a second chance with twenty extra episodes. On June 2, 2023, exactly one year before the infamous ‘Date of Death’, the 191 passengers of Montego Air Flight 828 landed for the last time. Fortunately for the viewer, the mystery of Manifest resolved in the final episode.
Two years after the death of Mother Grace, the Stone family is in mourning. Despite the fact that the ‘Date of Death’ gets closer and closer, Ben is only concerned with the search for his daughter Eden, who was kidnapped by Angelina. Michaela must team up with her ex Jared to stop a serial killer. Cal and Zeke experience the consequences of his return in the previous season. In the meantime, everyone must continue to resolve the ‘calls’ to keep the ‘Lifeline’ afloat. Finally, on June 2, 2024, after five and a half years, the ‘Date of Death’ arrives and the passengers of Flight 828 undergo final judgment.
There are constant references to characters and events from previous seasons just like before. In Cal’s words, “Everything is connected.” Therefore, it is advisable not to skip the summary of each episode. Despite the move to Netflix, the episodes run according to the familiar formula. The tension rises more than ever, especially in the last two episodes when the ‘Date of Death’ arrives. This slot offers a roller coaster of emotions that ends in catharsis for both the characters and the viewer. It’s a landing to be applauded.
Manifest it was marketed as a character-driven mystery thriller and the series certainly delivered on that. Michaela and Ben were worthy lead characters, but the star is Cal, who has literally and figuratively grown up. Due to that growth, child actor Jack Messina had to hand over to Ty Doran. That was a risk, but Doran, with his likeness and acting, made the transition smooth. It was quite a task to create an emotional connection with 191 characters, but through the ‘calls’ the writers got a glimpse into their lives.
Who doubts to start with’ the new Lost‘, you can do it with confidence. faithful followers of Manifest they are more likely to be disappointed by the series finale, but not by the way it ends. The themes that are dealt with, in combination with the diversity of the characters, create a moving image of society. Indeed, the past few years have also been a stark reminder that we must work together to keep our ‘lifeboat’ afloat. The center of the story is the Biblical quote “all things work together for good” from Romans 8:28. This certainly applies to Manifest.
Manifest can be seen in Netflix.
